Hi, I'm Caroline, owner of Warmest Welcomes Postpartum Doula Service and certified postpartum doula in Sacramento, CA - welcome to my blog! As this is my first post, I thought I’d share a little about myself and my journey to becoming a doula.

Let me set the scene: it's March 2024 and I got big news that my (now) wife Izzy and I were going to be moving across the country from St. Louis, MO to Sacramento so she could pursue family medicine residency. Life was very much in transition. I was leaving my nearly 10 year career in marketing and communications and selling our home to move states away to a city I knew almost no one.

In the midst of that, a very good friend of mine, G, had just given birth to her first child. I was so excited to visit her and celebrate sweet baby N! I’ve always loved babies so soaked up every moment holding her newborn, but on that trip, I realized I also loved caring for new parents. It brought me so much joy to be able to sit with my friend and hear her story, make her snacks, and help ensure she was caring for herself, too. When I returned home, I spoke to another friend who was a birth doula about my experience and learned that the thing I so enjoyed doing for G was in fact a job I could have: a postpartum doula!

Once I moved to Sacramento, I completed my postpartum doula training at the wonderful Sierra Doula Academy and worked towards certification with DONA International, the leading organization for evidence-based doula training. This included a 3-day intensive course, completing supplemental trainings on breastfeeding, first aid/CPR, and newborn care essentials; reflecting on why I want to be a doula; and an evaluation from three of the families I supported.

Since then, I have had the absolute privilege of serving 25 families and counting and cannot believe how lucky I am to do this job every day. Every day I get to walk into a client’s home to support them, I feel a huge sense of gratitude for past me for taking that big leap and pursuing this dream.

I would love the opportunity to care for you and your growing family as you navigate newborn life. Check out my services and schedule your free consultation to learn more - I can’t wait to meet you!
